Life often presents us with impossible situations—mountains too steep to climb, seas too vast to cross, and challenges that feel insurmountable. But as believers, we know that nothing is impossible for God. Time and again, scripture reassures us of His power, faithfulness, and ability to work miracles in our lives.
God’s Power in the Impossible
Throughout the Bible, we see God doing the impossible. From parting the Red Sea to raising the dead, His works remind us that His power knows no limits.
- Luke 1:37: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
This verse, spoken by the angel to Mary, reminds us that God’s promises are sure. He can bring life where there was none and make a way where there seems to be no way. - Matthew 19:26: “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
Jesus speaks these words to remind us that our human limitations are no obstacle for His divine power.
Examples of God’s Miraculous Works
- Parting the Red Sea
- When the Israelites faced the impossible—an army behind them and a sea before them—God parted the waters and made a path to safety (Exodus 14:21-22).
- Lesson: God can create a way out of nothing when we face impossible odds.
(This is my very loose interpretation of the Red Sea being parted.)
For years, I was sick, bedridden, and feeling like a failure as a wife and mother. There were days I could barely walk to the bathroom, and if I wanted to spend time with my small kids, they had to come to my room, or I would crawl down the hall to watch TV with them. It took about seven years, but God healed me. Though I’m not going into details here, I received many blessings and witnessed many miracles in my life, especially that of true friendship and the love my children had for me, their mother.
- Feeding the Multitudes
- With five loaves and two fish, Jesus fed over 5,000 people (Matthew 14:19-21). What seemed like a lack was turned into abundance.
- Lesson: God can multiply what little we have to meet every need.
While remodeling homes to rent or flip, my husband and I felt the pinch of COVID and many other financial strains. At one point, the only solution, on paper, was to file for bankruptcy. However, I knew God and His power to help, so I offered a fast to Him. I also understood that God can do impossible math. Somehow, we didn’t have to file for bankruptcy and received money to start a new project.
- Raising Lazarus
- Lazarus had been dead for four days, but Jesus called him out of the grave (John 11:43-44).
- Lesson: Even in the face of death, God’s power brings life and hope.
Trusting God to Do the Impossible in Your Life
The same God who parted seas, multiplied loaves, and raised the dead is the same God who healed my body, heart, and mind, brought me money in difficult times, and is the same God still working in your life today. When faced with impossible situations, we can trust Him to act.
3 Steps to Trust God with the Impossible:
1. Pray Boldly
- Approach God with faith, asking Him to do what only He can.
- James 5:16: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
This is exactly what happened when my son, Craig, was very young; he became lethargic for a few days to the point that he no longer moved. After rushing him to the hospital, I turned to the Lord, offering my sincere prayer of healing for my son. But that prayer turned from pleading for my son to be spared to asking God to help me be good with His will. At that moment, I felt as if my son would die, and I chose, then and there, that if God needed him home, then I would accept it. Such peace filled my soul, and I stood by his hospital bed, accepting that this would be the last time in this mortal life I would be with my baby.
Not long later, two men from my church came and, laying their hands upon his head, gave him a blessing from God, promising that he would be healed and the doctors would find out what was wrong with him. Then they said words that would forever change my life, “This was a test of your mother's faith. To see if she would truly trust in God’s plan in her life.”
More than ever, I knew God knew me. That He loved me and wanted me to trust Him even when things did not make sense or when He asked hard things of me. And I knew that I could do hard things.
2. Have Faith in His Timing
- Trust that God’s timing is perfect. He works in ways we can’t see.
- Isaiah 60:22: “I the Lord will hasten it in his time.”
Suggestion: Reflect on a time when you felt God’s timing wasn’t what you wanted, but it turned out to be exactly what you needed.
3. Take Action in Obedience
- When God calls you to act, step out in faith. The Israelites had to walk through the parted sea, trusting God to hold back the waters.
- Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Impossible Becomes Possible with God
When we rely on our own strength, many things are impossible. But when we place our faith in God, there are no limits to what He can do. He specializes in miracles, turning the impossible into a testimony of His glory.
No matter what you’re facing today, remember these words from Jeremiah 32:27: “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”
The answer is simple: Nothing is too hard for Him. Trust in His power, lean into His promises, and watch as He does the impossible in your life.
